newbie question

Hi, I am a little lost here. I have obtained the NORIs from India and as I understand, I have to send them to nearest consulate along with (from consulate\'s website) passport, $11, return envelope and the case number given by USIA. is that right?

1. I thought the consulate was going to send these forms to USIA through embassy?? I dont have a case number from USIA, where do I get this??

2. Also, at what stage do I fill out 1-612 and the data sheet? The faq on this website says the USIA is supposed to send me a form to fill out after it gets my papers. What forms are these?

3. Do I send originals of NORIs or copies?

Basically, I am very confused about what forms to fillout at this stage and hereon. I\'d appreciate anyone could clarify.

Procedure...

It seems that the procedure has slightly changed as compared to what I did around two years ago. Anyway, I could garner the following information for you (others: please correct me if I am wrong):

1. Read for general information: http://travel.state.gov/jvw.html

2. Fill out this form: http://travel.state.gov/DS-3035.pdf and send to the address mentioned therein along with $136.00 fee.

3. Wait for the case number. [Typical time taken: 1 month]
   You could have saved time by completing these steps 1 to 3 while collecting the NORIs.

4. Send original NORIs, $11.00, filled-up form for "miscellaneous services" as available on http://www.indianembassy.org/consular/index.htm and the case number you received during step#3 above to the Indian embassy/consulate as per your geographic location.

5. The embassy will send a final no objection letter to the US Department of State and its copy to you. [Typical time taken: 2 weeks]

6. The US department of state will forward its recommendation to the INS and its copy to you. [Typical time taken: 6 to 8 weeks]

7. INS will issue you a receipt notice stating that they received recommendation from the DoS (some people don\'t receive such notice). [Typical time taken: 15 days after the INS receives the recommendation from the DoS]

8. INS will send you their decision (notice of action). [Typical time taken by INS: 1 to 2 month(s) after the receipt of the recommendation from the DoS ]

J Waiver Question

I have filed with the D of state for the waiver based on hardship.
Then I filed I-612 with the INS.
INS phone system says that it will take 45-60 days. However, DOS says that it will take 4-6 months. Which one is it?
