Newbie question about name check in NIW

I read from previous post that if one get name checked, it will take a long time before his 140 is approved? Just curious how does they know if they get name checked?

Most of name checks done in a few months but if your name gets lots of
hits from the data base, it might take uncertain amount of time.
The name check is essentially 485 issue but some think it holds up
140 processing if you file your case concurrently. But this is not clear
like many things in USCIS. The name check is officially a 485 issue.
Your online status can tell your case is in the name check processs
or you can e-mail USCIS or FBI about it (some say FBI stopped replying
e-mail inquiry on name checks).
