Newark Stamping: SSN Question

Folks,

I have my ppt. stampint at Newark shortly. I saw some threads here mentioning that one could get the new SSN card in the same bldg. ?
If I'm not mistaken, I understand that after the I-551 stamping, I could go to the 10th floor and apply for a new SS card ? Can this be done on the same day ? Are there any queue issues (i.e. another infopass appt.) for the SSN or could I just walk in ?

Right now my SSN card says authorized to work with INS approval or something. I guess the new card (after I-551 stamped) will remove this condition ?

Response appreciated.

Thanks.

>> Yes. No appointments. But, you need to wait for your turn after getting a token when you enter. It took an hour for me for the whole process.

I had my stamping done today (Philly). Went to a local Social Security Office to replace my SSN card. After waiting for quit some time, the lady took my application but noted that my status hadn't been changed in their computer system. (They look up by your A number.) She made photo copies of my Passport and the I551 stamp and told me they would order me a new SSN card once my status changes. I guess it is better to wait for 7-10 days before you apply for a replacement SSN because your status should have changed by then, and you don't have to worry about contacting them if you don't receive your replacement card for sometime.
