Newark stampees and folks,
Went to the Newark INS office in Broad Street. Reached at about 8:40 a.m.
Parked at enclosed parking lot. The immediate parking lot across the building on Court St.
is $8.00 full day, but if you go north on broad st. 2 blocks ahead, parking is $5.00 full day and
if you go a little inside, parking is $3.00 full day, so shop around.
Got in line in front of the building. There were about 4 lines on all sides of the building. So for
stamping the passport, ask the guard or security officer for Room 136 for immigration. Again Room
136, that is IMPORTANT.
Once we came to know where room 136 is, stood in line outside the building leading to that room.
Passed through security check. Leave your swiss knife home or in the car, coz they confiscated mine.
Of course it was not smart of me to carry it in my key chain along with my keys in the first place.
Anyway after passing security check, filled up a form given by the immigration lady and stood in line.
You can also stand in line and fill up the form, saves time. Then proceeded to the counter and gave
the documents (EAD, approval - I gave the courtesy copy, even though I had my lawyers copy with me, because
of my address on the courtesy copy). I did not give my AP, thinking that I may be called on a later day for stamping
as per Sher\'s and other folks experience on 5/15/2002. The immigration lady
took our signature and fingerprint of the right index finger. Then was given a token number and
then went up to the 10 th floor. Sat out there untill the number was called. When the number was called
gave the documents at the counter. Was told to wait until background check was complete. After an hour
was called and our passports stamped. The lady congratulated us and mentioned that the card would come in 6 to
12 months.
Then went to the Social Security Office, which is the next room on the same floor. Was a give a token and then
was called after 1/2 hour. Gave our previous SSN cards and showed our stamped passports and was told that new
SSN cards would come in 2 weeks.
So hope this helps.
Good Luck folks.
