new visa rules - impact on consular processing

According the new visa rules all visa applications (non-immigrant, visitors, etc.) will have to go thru an interview process, that's my assumption.

With this have a significant impact on CP interview timeframes?

My guess is; currently AOS takes around 18-24 mnths and CP around 7-8 mnths.

With the new visa rules, will the CP timeframe increase to, say, 12 mnths?

Just wanted to know everyones' thoughts..

All CP applicants already have to go through an interview process.

I think the change you are referring to concerns people who could previously obtain non-immigrant visas (NIV) without having to appear for an interview.

In my opinion, this should not have too much of an impact on the IV related consular processing timelines.

I know CP process currently requires interview.

What I meant was; with more no. of applicants (in non-immigrant category) having to go thru interviews, the same officers might be interviewing them (that's my guess...& hence the delay).

OK - I see what you mean.

Difficult thing to speculate about. My guess is that what will probably happen is that Non Immigrant Visa applicants will have to wait longer and longer before they get their interview appointments. Therefore, immigrant visa interviews should still pursue at the same rate. Just a guess though - actual effect will probably vary from consulate to consulate depending on staffing.

TO the best of knowledge, it should not affect immigrant (CP) processing at the consulate since different set of consular officers conduct CP interview vs other usa visa interviews. This is likely to affect non green card visa category.
