New US Visa rules delays nri to return with spouses

This is pretty strange. I hope Regional Passport office will speed up the process and issued new passport for spouse as early as possible so that they can travel back happily with the spouse.

To say the least, this is incongruous. Women have the right to hold onto their maiden name. What about professional women who might have presented or published research work in conferences, journals, where all articles are indexed by the last name of the person. Suddenly they have to give up their surname?

If this is true, we need to inform/write to influential people in the US to at least let them know of this.

On the other hand, it seems okay to have the spouse's name be included in the passport. A decent compromise between fraud prevention and excessive use of discretionary power.
