New type of notices after approval ..

Guys and Gals,

I recently found out USCIS or atleast TSC has been sending out the following notice after approving a case -

"In processing your case we have reached the point where we need to make an appointment to go to one of our ASC to have some additional biometrics (fingerprint, photo and signature) taken.

call customer service at 800.375.5283 to schedule your appointment.
We cannot complete certain steps in processing until you appear for this appointment. you must appear for your appointment within 84 days from the date of this notice."

This is a new development and I just wanted to share this with everyone. Apparently if you receive the above notice then you have to call and setup a Biometric appointment. This process is separate from the PP stamping. In the past all biometrics (FP of index finger, digital pic and signature) used to be completed during the PP stamping and then the card was issued. It appears that now people are either doing their Biometrics along with FP (code 3) or are getting this new notice. What I am guessing is that USCIS is trying to move away from PP stamping being tied with Biometrics. Maybe in the near future the Biometrics during PP stamping will be phased out. This makes sense because once the Bio is captured, the physical GC can be mailed irrespective of whether PP has been stamped or not.

regards,

saras
