My wife is foreign and I am US citizen, we got married couple of weeks ago--she entered the US with fiancee visa, so she is still legal, but her K1 visa will expire soon. I want to start her greencard process to adjust her status, but the attorney fees are too expensive now. I was reading a bit and I am unclear what forms do I need to fill out and file right now.

Can someone that knows the process give us some hints. here is the current situation:

- We live in California
- She has a k1 visa

1. what are the forms I need to fill out?
2. Where do I file? Is there an address?
3. Do I need to send any extra documents with the forms such as marriage license?
4. is there a web-site with all the detailed steps so I can read and get more information.

thank you very much for your time.

First off, if you're having problems with funding, you can try and raise funds by crowdfunding, like at www.ImmigrationFunds.com.

But, you can also do it yourself, which will save you the atty fees, but not the filing fees.

If she's K-1, you have to get married within the first 90 days, but you don't have to immediately adjust status (apply for her greencard). Once you do, it'll be the I-485, I-765, and I-131(optional). The I-485 instructions will tell you what supporting docs you need, but it's mostly proof that the marriage is legitimate.

Good luck!
