I felt like I was wounded too from the process, and your wife will have to sing to the tune of $17,500 a year to sponsor you ... :D

That said, here is a reference to get you started on the forms you need to file. Read the guide and then read the instructions for each form on the USCIS website to get started. I'm not familiar with any specifics that may apply to your current G-4 status.

Yes, you'll be sending all forms together, to a mysterious lockbox address in Chicago.

I assume your wife is a US citizen, correct?

Thank you so much austriacus.i was in a dase with all this.lol at "mysterious lockbox address in Chicago".

gtteen, I only asked if she is a US citizen because then you will be considered as an immediate relative for whom a visa number is immediately available (some people have to wait for many years for a visa number!).

The adjustment of status will probably take about 4-8 months (although sometimes there are longer delays). Optionally you can apply for I-765 (employment authorization - EAD) and I-131 (advance parole - to travel outside US during the AOS) ... the fee for those is already included in the I-485 application.

Some of the more time consuming items on the application are the I-864 (affidavit of support), I-693 (medical exam which needs to be done by a designated civil surgeon), evidence you need to collect to prove a bona fide marriage, and if your birth certificate is in a language other than English, someone who is fluent in both languages (it can be you) needs to certify the translation.

Expect to have a biometrics appointment and a few months later an interview.

Good luck!

Ohh ok,understod.Well i got all of the applactions yestarday in the mail.I have all of the stuff that need to go out with them too,the only things i need to get done is the I-864 (affidavit of support), I-693.i am not sure if i am going to apply for I-131 (advance parole) casue i dont plan on going anywhere outside of the US ,well thats untill Decemeber when i may wanna go home to see my mom that i have not seen in like 7 years now.Thnak you.You have helped me solve alot of problems that i was having with all this:)

If you want to visit your mother in December, I would suggest you file that I131. Your process could take some time and hopefully, you'd have your I131 approved.
