The Regulations which would attend the new Immigration Act have been tabled for the
purpose of public discussion. The URL at which you may review such is:

I just had my first glimpse of proposed new Regulations and few things caught my eye
as extremely important for most pending and future applications. After the second and
third glimpse I will most likely come with at least few more important facts. Please
note that those are proposed Regulations only as of December 15, 2001 and not the
final version, although not a lot will be changed (if anything) in the final print.

Many posters may ask what will be the pass mark under new selection
criteria after the implementation of new Immigration Act. Just published in Canada
Gazette proposed Regulations to new Immigration Act state that anticipated pass mark
will be initially set by the Minister of Immigration at 80 points.

Under new law immigrants will be required to demonstrate that they have available
funds in the amount at least equal to LICO amount for their family size established
for the urban area with the population over 500,000. For example a family of 3
(primary applicant and 2 dependants) will be required to demonstrate having at least
CAD 27,805 (approximately USD 18,000).

Also proposed Regulations state that all applications received after new Act comes
into force will be assessed under new law and exactly same criteria applies to
applications in the Independent and Assisted Relative categories that are received
after the publication of Regulations in Canada Gazette (December 15th, 2001) and have
not yet received a selection interview on the date of Regulations coming into force.

Applications in the Independent and Assisted Relative categories received before the
publication of Regulations in Canada Gazette (before December 15th,
2001) which have not received the selection interview by the date of Regulations
coming into force will also be assessed under new law, but with the pass mark
of 75 points.
