Bill in the senate is no longer referred as H.R 148; Real ID bill is referred now as H.R.1268.

QUESTIONS:
1) does the new "Real ID" bill (at the senate) still include the amendment that eliminates the caps for adjustment for us asylees?

2) doesn't it look like that this "new real id bill" is actually an amendment of a larger budget (emergency) bill? I have a feeling that because it is part of a budget deal that it has a chance of passing sooner rather than later.

3) does anybody have a clearer idea of what is going on?

Yesterday I received a response from my US senate representating my state. It is a long letter discussing terrorism, national ID and this country's safety issues. He does not mention the asylee's cap removal issue in his response. I can't conclude if he missunderstood the purpose of the fax I sent him. However he stated " While immigration is definitely needed , members of the Conference Committee and the Bush Administration expressed concerns with several controversial provisions , including the expansion of the removal authorities , and the alien identification standards included in H.R. 10" He continued later " supporters of the immigration-related provisions in the measure have been assured by Congressional leaders that overall reform of immigration policy will be a top priority during the 109th. President Bush has also publicly stated that immigration reform is one of his top priorities in the near future." According to him, the immigration and national ID issues will be discussed on the 109th. None knows what will become of the cap removal. Now I think we have to wait until the 109 th debate to know what they plan to do with us.

I am thinking that the final bill would not include the asylee cap removal..It has worked like that always....sucks!!

my mistake - most likely cap elimination is still part of bill

There are 3 versions of Bill Number H.R.1268 for the 109th Congress
[H.R.1268.RH]
[H.R.1268.RFS]
[H.R.1268.EH]

link:
http://www.congress.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c109:H.R.1268:

Follow one of the links [H.R.1268.RH]; [H.R.1268.RFS]; [H.R.1268.EH]

Then go to TITLE VII--ADDITIONAL GENERAL PROVISIONS
DIVISION B--REAL ID ACT OF 2005
Then go to (f) Removal of Caps- Section 209 of the Immigration and Nationality Act

Just the first one (H.R.1268.RH) does not include elimination of cap, and most likely is the version that was not amended. If the government pass one of the 3 versions, most likely will be the second or third version (H.R.1268.RFS or H.R.1268.EH); hopefully.

Does anyone know what I am saying? Am I correct now?

Please reply :)

Your Right. It looks like the HR 1268 RH is the version passed by the house when HR 418 was separate. Now they propably joint the bills together into HR 1268 RFS
and I did trace the removing of the caps at:
HR 1268 RFS - Division B - Title I - Sec 101(f)(2)(A)

The cap is gone? Did we all send letters to promote freaking tougher immigration for our asylee brothers???...Are we seroius? I feel like throwing up...IF you dont hear from me again..Just know I ended it!!...

I'm sorry but some of You guys are either lazy or blind (or both) ..the frigging removal of the cap is in the mo#$%F#^%$# bill....

This Committee on the Judiciary sucks! They killed the bill in 2000 and now they gonna do the same.Idiots! How they gonna handle the backlog? Why they do that to us? I still don't get it! Now if the bill pass they will increase burden of prof for applicants, while leaving 10000 cap without changes.
