a couple ideas and thoughts about processing time
One is to point out that there are people in 2 categories that are getting adjustment to LPR, with Receipt Notice dates as of 03-01-04. They are refugees (with admission more than 1 year ago), and people that qualify under the Indochinese Adjustment Act. I know we are a bit different than refugees because we apply for protection inside the U.S.
I think we should strive to have adjustment dates similar to refugees with our dealing with USCIS, politicians, lobbying groups (like lawyers associations or what have you), etc. I know, it will take some time until they implement the law.
In a while, sooner rather than later, we should be maybe contacting our congress persons and senators, lawyers' associations, USCIS personnel (or whoever is influential in this process and could give us precise directions) to question about how the process will take place; in short, how long it will take for us asylees to adjust. Sure they (in the USCIS) need some time to put their act together for this is a new law.
One last thing about the Real Id Act: the law removes the caps but it does not specify how long it would take for they to adjust our status. In theory they could keep doing things the same way they do now. So we should speak up, write letters, do whatever to give our input – after waiting an appropriate time (how long?).
Would it me nice to get adjusted to LPR status in a bit over a year (or year and a half), after you fill out and send you I-485 like it happens now to refugees? It would be nice if one day we could be under the same line, Refugees and Asylees, in these Center Processing Time Reports.
Okay guys; let me dream at least a bit ok?
And now seriously, let's keep the pressure on ...
