new name too common... can I tell IO that I don't want to change, during interview?

When I informed my parents/siblings about the new
name that I have requested on the N-400 form, they
called me an idiot. My sister-in-law threw me the
local whitepages and told me to look up my new name.

Oh, no.... I am an idiot in the worst possible degree!
There are nearly 70+ people with the same first and
last name. (and I had chosed to use no middle name)
While it's not as common as "John Smith".... it seems
like people with my last name really like this first
Americanized first name..... which also happens to
be my favourite...

When it's time for my interview, can I tell the officer
that I wish to retract my name change request, or
at least do a variatio of it? Or will this not be looked
upon kindly by the officer?

Or perhaps it's better if I just accept it and then do
a name change afterwards at my local county courthouse?

Thanks!

You can always try changing it during the interview. Re-print the first page and hand it to them. They don't make you sign the application (officially atleast) until the interview and they certainly don't print out naturalization certificates or court documents until afterwards anyway.

If it doesn't work and they don't let you change it, then you can always change it later at a court.

:D TwoScoops, you are just too funny :D

You can certainly ask to update your application during the interview. Better make sure you take a phone book with you, just in case you change your mind again.
