Hi:

I'm an european citezen, I was an student for a while, then got an opt, met my girlfriend, when my opt expired went back to europe, then came back here as a tourist(3 month visa) and I just got married a couple of weeks ago. My tourist visa is expired. Now here is my question...

How hard would be to do all the paperwork by myself considering my case, or should I hire a lawyer? I live in california. Any website with helpful information? whats your advice?

thanks.

Really? the one I consulted wanted to charge me 1200...that's why I was kinda thinking about it. anyone knows any lawyer office in california?

What's your wife immigration status?

Try uscis.gov: http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/lpreligibility.htm

thanks. Just following the instruction from the oficial web or is there any other place I can look into? Also I need to go back to europe on christmas, should I right away ask for that special travel permission, or before christmas I should have everything ready?

thanks.

I dont think you can go back for xmas...Lawyers charge a min. of 2500$ in cali.Para legals charge around 500$.I would do it with a good para legal because the lawyer doesnt do anything more than a para and lawyers often screw up the paper work and screw you over and ignore your calls...

I would only use a lawyer if you had lots of problems and law violations...

Yes, I agree. $2500 is a pretty standard fee in both Cali and TX - the two states I have residences in. You may be able to get an attorney in other parts of the country where things are cheaper, but that is pretty much what an attorney will charge you.

Use a paralegal, or even better, if you have some common sense, do it yourself.

Note: I do wonder why you came in on the VWP. Did you know you were going to get married at that point? I hope not...

I guess i will just do it myself tho. I know a couple of people who did it themselves and everything went right.

west coast law office ($350) to help you to get conditional GC.
