NEW HERE! Finishing up my forms

Hi guys, I'm almost finished with my forms and just before I thought it's an easy process and ready to send my forms. I found this great website and of course more questions pop up as I read through every thread in here...

So I have been researching the process and some I can't find answer, so I'm hoping if there will be anyone here willing to help me a bit :)

For I-485 form, Application type in Part 2-- I am applying for an adjustment to permanent resident status because.......
which one should I check? I am filing the 485 and 130 together, so my petition hasn't been approved, and other boxes just don't apply except OTHER. Should I check Other basis of eligibility? and if Yes, what should I put?

And in PART 3 C, asking me affiliation with organization, is it okay to put all the schools I have attended?

Lastly, I have seen A LOT of people asking where to file all the forms, all the Threads I saw are saying send it to CHICAGO LOCKBOX..... Sorry to ask again, but on the instructions on I-130, it said if I'm filing concurrently with I-485, I should "submit both forms at the local USCIS office having jurisdiction over the place where the Form I485 applicant resides."

On the USCIS website under Form I-485, it says:
Family-Based Applications

If you are filing for lawful permanent resident status based on a family relationship with a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent
resident, file your I-485 at:
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
P.O. Box 805887
Chicago, IL 60680-4120

For the instructions on the i-485, it says "file at the USCIS service center or local office that has jurisdiction over your place of residence, or submit the frm to the USCIS lockbox Facility"

So where do I really send the whole packagte (I-130, I-485, 765, 131) I guess I maybe I have confusion on "jurisdiction over your place or residence" I don't know, I don't want to send to a wrong location and slow down my process

Thank you in advance for your help!

For I-485, Part 2 put "A". I know it sounds wrong, but it is the correct answer if you're filing for a Green Card through marriage with a I-130 either approved, previously submitted or filed concurrently. Before your I-485 is approved, the I-130 will be approved, so the wording will be correct at that time!

Everything goes to the Chicago Lockbox, just like it says on the form. That information is on the front page of I-485 trumps all other info. Everything goes in the same envelope and is filed to the Chicago Lockbox. Boy I wish USCIS would update the damn forms!

That's not the kind of organizations they mean, so no.

Couldn't agree more! You'd think that people would be so confused and upset by now that it would make the USCIS update the forms...

Not only that, but when you call the 1-800 number, they often give you wrong info, too. My wife called three times and got three different answers to the simple question of "where to send?" Crazy, huh?

You guys are lucky that I discovered this forum after I had already sent my application. Otherwise, I'd be asking the same questions... :D

Good luck, emmiedustie! I feel your pain! ;)

Yes, the "misinformation" line is just classic. They should just shut it down, it causes more problems than it fixes.

dr_lha, ttinatl,

Thanks so much for your help!

Yea, I tried to stay away from calling the USCIS! Either I'm waiting 2 hours waiting for someone to answer my call or I ended up being more confused!

I now leave the very last part to do -- affidavit of support. then i'm ready to go!

So what are they referring to, like jobs ? I can just leave it blank right?

by the way, what do you guys think is the best way to mail ? FedEx? Express Mail? UPS??? Do you use express or regular?

Not jobs, but any professional and extracurricular organizations, I believe. I put all my job-related professional and honors societies (like IEEE, etc.) and even one sports club. ;) If you don't have any of these, I wouldn't worry about it.

I sent my application USPS Priority with delivery confirmation and was very happy with it. Cheap, rather fast and reliable, and I knew when it was delivered. Took two days!

The sort of organizations that if you were a member of them, you would know the answer to that question. In my case for example, I put down that I am a member of the American Astronomical Society. IEEE would be another example. If you don't belong to any organizations like these, its safe to leave it blank.

Oh I would imagine it also includes any political organizations you belong to too, if you do.
