Hi, I am from the UK and have recently married a US citizen and am in the process of my green card application.

We sent off my application in January, had the biometrics appointment in February and have been called for our initial interview on March 21st in Denver, CO. It is all happening very fast!

I have 2 questions:

1. Does everyone get a 2nd interview, or is that only if they are not convinced of the legitimacy of our marriage during the first interview?

2. If my GC is approved in March, and I still have to wait for the GC itself to come through, can I travel abroad while waiting?

1. Most people only have 1 interview.

2. If your GC is approve, you have to either have the Green Card stamp in your passport (you can ask for this if you get approved at your interview) or wait for Green Card to arrive before you travel.

Thanks

One more question re travel. If they do not stamp my passport at the interview, but approve me, is it possible to get a meeting to have a stamp put in? It is very important that I can travel this June, and have already applied for AP, but think that this would be invalid if my GC has been approved but is still not in my possession.

Asking for the stamp at your interview would be the easiest way. You can make an Infopass appointment and ask for a stamp there later. Either way your chances of getting it are not 100% (I was told point blank "we don't do that" when I asked for one at my interview, but others have reported success).

If you don't get approved at interview, your AP should have come through by the time you need to travel.

You might end up having to make a tough decision however, as to whether to risk your Green Card by travelling without it or AP. I don't recommend this.

Thats great to know - my AP application is currently in progress too, so i am pretty sure that I will have that in time for June, even if I don't have my GC. Thank you so much for all your advice.

The only thing that might hold things up in receiving green card is if you get stuck in the "name check". So make sure at the interview, if approved, you ask for stamp. And more than likely your AP won't be approved since process is speeding along for you:p . Best wishes
