new H1 - need help regarding SSN

I came here to USA on H4-visa.
I filed for new H1(PREMEIUM) and it was approved june 22nd 2004, through VERMONT SERVICE CENTER.
I went to apply for SSN in the local Social security Office,
they said that my I-94 is showing H4, and is not updated. And asked me to come after 2 weeks.
I went again they told me the same thing.this time they told they are not sure when it will be updated.
Myself and my husband, we both have maintained valid legal status in the U.S.
please guide me what to do? Thank you.

If you did not get a new I94 attached to your H-1B approval notice (Form 797), the only way you can get a new I94 is by travelling abroad and getting a new H-1B visa stamped- Hope this helps

i got my I-94 attached with the H-1B approval notice.
when i went to local social security office to apply for an SSN they are saying that my I-94 is still showing as H4 .
They are saying that it should show H1. then only they can issue an SSN to me.
They say that the database might not have been updated yet.
so, i have to wait for the databases to be updated......
