This is horrendous, $1010 for I 485, daylight robbery
Susan:

New 485s (the ones that pay $1010) also get EAD and AP at no additional charge.

That should even out for most people (that use 3 or 4 EAD/APs)

But it is too bad for those of us that have already filed 485 - we have to pay a lot more for EAD/AP -- new 485 filers (after 7/16) are not that badly affected.

The uscis plan is to use this source to cover the budget deficit and possibly even social security deficit and keep the hapless immigrants in perpetual bondage consuming all their blood toil and hardwork.

Whoa whoa .... hold up .....

This is not even close to the social security deficit :D :D ..... that is a huge ocean - this is just a small puddle.

In any case, USCIS cannot and will not divert monies to whatever other funds (like SS) they want ..... its just not how the fiscal thing works. There are rules governing all of that.

From your writing, do you mean the renewal of 131&765 will be free for 485 filed after Jul 30? It's not what I understood from USCIS faq.

Quote from the Q and A

Those who file an adjustment of status application (Form I-485) after the new fee schedule is effective will not have to pay the additional fees for employment and travel authorization as these costs have been included in the new adjustment of status application fee.

So yeah -- if you file a new 485 after the 7/30 effective date, you would not have to pay for EAD/AP.
This is only for new 485s -- pending 485s (like your case for example) don't get a darn thing for free -- you have to pay the new EAD/AP charges for your renewals :(

Hope that makes it clear !!

I am still not clear about it. Yes, new I485 filing fee includes fee for EAD and AP. But, it doesn't say, if one would require to pay a fee for extending either EAD or AP year after year. Though most file 485/EAD/AP together, it is not required to do so and one can do it only then work permit or outside travel is required. One should confirm if we get 'extensions' for free or not. If what we think is true, it may work out well for all those whole file after July.

It seems that how it will work is this:
If you file 485 after July, 30, filing fee is higher but interim benefits are free for life.
If you have filed 485 before, you got new fees for interim benefits.

I wonder what are the penalties for not paying fees for EAD extensions and working illegally. Are they going to deport you?

Its really simple:

If you file 485 after 7/30/07:
EAD/AP renewals is covered as long as the 485 remains pending

If you already have a pending 485:
Nothing is free -- you pay the increased fees for EAD & AP.

No penalty -- it is the best thing to do. :D
That way you can become illegal real soon and given all these amnesty type legislation, you will get your GC far far quicker than if you had stayed legal ! :D :D

NSC Farmers will now process only the new applicants who have paid new rates as there is no incentive to keep them in backlog.

The backlog candidates will become a money spinner for the us govt , more the backlog, better the profit.

Milk the cow till it dries out and when theres no milk left, deny the application after 20 years.

I understand after July 30, the first 131/765 is free according to USCIS faq.
However, it didn't state clearly all the renewals are free for the people who file 485 after July 30. Maybe my reading comprehension is not good enough, maybe the faq just wants to play the words so they can have new memo regarding the 131/765 renewal.
