Hi all,

I'm planning to change employers. Currently I am with company A and client B. This client is a big guy all over the world. They have offices all around US. But I'm just wondering if I can ask them to start my GC from a state where I'm not currently working/residing. Would that be possible, how can I convince the attorneys / HR people of client B. Please reply ASAP.

thanks.

Hi Cool Dude,
Most of the time with companies whose office locations are all over US, would have a corporate office in one location(Say for example such as Newyork or Chicago). If that be the case, then the company would file from the state where their Corporate Office is located.

I dont think that you can convince the attorney's, as large companies would definitely stick to their own policies and procedures and wouldnt come out of their way to handle one particular situation.

Anyway you can still try to talk to attorney(incase they allow you to talk to them directly) the pro's and con's of the state where labor is running for years together and also the time you would recover if the labor is filed from a state where the office has its location and where the labor is current.

Good Luck

Since the Big companies have branches all over US. They should be able to sponsor GC from any state if they WISH. I feel if you want to convince your HR guys, I believe atleast in that state( where ever you want to process ) should have worked for atleast 3 months...

As I said if they want you, they can do any thing for u.....

Any way try... good luck

THANKS A LOT GUYS>>>> I will try my luck and see what they say.

But even if I say that I provide a lawyer myself and they do the paper work, will that work. What are the chances?

thanks.

Most of the big companies DONT allow you to hire your own lawyer. They cannot give company's confidential information to any other lawyer whom they are not comfortable with.

They would definitely go through their own attorney's but you need to convince your Sr. HR guy/girl or even Vice President as the case may be to file it through a state where labor runs current.

Good Luck
