Never received plastic card.

My PP was stamped in May 2002, but
I never received the plastic green card.
After 8 months I called and the lady said I should wait at least 1 year. In June I called and they said they had mailed the card in november, and it was returned undeliverable (sigh.. )

Anyway, so I plan to go to the San Jose office tomorrow to sort this out. I am taking my I485 approval notice, passport, two photographs, I90 form, checkbook.

I will ask for:
1) replacement GC (with form I90)
- the fee should be waived since I
never received the card
2) a new passport stamp.

Can I use my original I485 approval notice to get into the 'appointment' line?

In any case I will try to be there at 6:00 and be out at 9:30. Hope that is realistic. I've been to San Jose twice before to do this but the line moves SO SLOWLY :-(

I can't understand why BCIS doesn't send out official documents through certified mail. God knows who is using my GC.

Sigh. Just got to INS San Jose office at 6:15am. Already the line was all the way across the front of the building. So, I figure it will be at least 11:00 before I could get in.

Looks like I'm going to have to take some time off work.

Plastic card replacement - San Jose CSC morning queue details!

OK, all done. In and out in a mere 5 hours.

Here's the details:

---- Adventures at the San Jose INS, 8/15/2003 ----
* I-90 Application for replacement greencard (that I never received)
* passport stamp so I can travel (since my last stamp expired in May.

5:15am arrived, 50-60 people ahead of me, some sleeping, most standing. Not much light to read, only the light of the breakfast truck.

5:50 25 more people have joined the line. Sky begins to lighten.

6:50 Guards are saying "stand up folks". All the folks sitting down stand up as the flag is raised.

7:00 Doors have opened. By this time, about 65 more have joined.

8:20 Finally I get inside through the security check. The ticket numbers currently being called (not issued!) are A31, C302, F600.

8:45 I reach the front of the 'internal' line. I get to talk to the information person - I tell him what I want and he gives me a number. The woman in front of me was told she needed to submit her application by mail - it can't be done here. Also, make sure that the services you want aren't offered at the San Jose ASC (Application support center). - different office, maybe the line is shorter?

At this point the numbers are A36, C302, F603. My ticket is A51. Thank god, this seems to be the number changing the most. I get the feeling A is 'general' stuff, while C and F are more specialized queues.

Lots of people seem to be getting EADs. They take the photo right there, and issue the card about 5-10 mins later. So, make sure you look nice even if you brought your own photos. But, I wasn't here for EAD....

9:30 processing A46, C305, F605
There are 5 counters open, out of 11 total. Depressing.

9:45 processing A50, C305, F605

9:50 yay! I'm called. I tell him what I want. He verifies the I-90 application that I filled in. I do a fingerprint & signature. He then sends me over to the cashier to pay. I ask if he can waive the fee since I didn't even receive the green card in the first place. I get back a "No way on earth is that going to happen" kind of response. So, I go to the cashier and pay cash (I brought plenty of 20's).

10:20. I'm waiting for the guy to call my name . I can see the cashier has returned my paperwork long ago, but the guy is still processing other people. Grr. Meanwhile, A61, C306, F606

10:35. My name is called. Hooray. He hands me my passport, tells me that I'm all done, and that I have my temporary green card. I'm outta here.

Hope that was useful for someone. One thing that amazed me was that I seemed to be the only one reading in the line. Please, take something to read, or you'll bore yourself to death!
