Need your help/Direct Consulate Filing/GC

My brother’s cut-off date will be current in a month and all his IV documents have arrived at the U.S. consulate. He recently landed a job that requires him to stay overseas for a year. I am trying to coordinate a time line that will not delay his GC process. Here are the questions that I need your help.

1. When his cut-off date becomes current, is he going to have finger print checked before his interview or at the time of his interview?

2. Is it true that his immigration visa will be good for 6 months?

3. Once he is inspected at the airport, does he need to contact INS to receipt his plastic GC or is physical card ordered automatically at the port of entry?

4. Is his passport stamped I-551 at the port of entry so that he can travel back to his home country and finish up his work? He plans only to stay in the U.S. for a week to finish GC process and then return back after 4-5 months.

I think 4 months for the U.S. consulate to schedule his interview, 5 months IV validation and 5 months to stay outside the U.S. under GC restriction. I hope my plan will work out for him. Any suggestions?

Best Regards,
