Guys need urgent help.

I had a misdemneanor case in 2000 and i was on probation for 2 yrs. The probation was that i had to be on a job and be of good conduct. My company filed for a green card in 2001 and in 2002 they filed for the I-485. I left the company in May 2003 as i got a better opportunity and my old company was fine about that. I got my case then transfered to the local office where i moved. Now a few days back i got my Interview call for my I-485. While i was going through the documents i saw that there was a mistake in my I-485 as i had not informed about my Misdemneanor case. I want to amend my I-485. My attornies are charging me almost $3K for it so was wondering if i can file for the Amendment myself. I also wanted to know what could be the consequences if i dont amend my I-485 and go for the interview. Also which forms are required for the I-485 Amendment. Can someone please helpppppppppppppppppp asap.

Regards

Guang

I don't want to scare you. I believe it's serious thing and you should know where you are. In immigration rule probation is considered jail-time. I don't know for what reason you got probation. See this article in Murthy.com. regarding shop-lifting:

Beware : Serious Immigration Consequences of Shoplifting

Here it says:

Note that even a suspended sentence is considered a jail sentence. A suspended sentence is one that does not have to be served, provided the defendant complies with conditions imposed by the court. A person could have a three-year sentence, for example, but the sentence could be suspended on the condition that a period of probation is completed. In such a case, one may be under the mistaken impression that there is no jail sentence, since s/he has never gone to jail. It is necessary to read the court documents very carefully.

misdemeanor itself is not a problem, not disclosing it is a big one.
hire a competent attorney asap and try to amend the petition. don't delay.
