Need to reschedule Oath - Any experiences??

Hello,

This forum has been so helpful to me in the past, and I hope to get some response to my current situation.

Me and my wife completed our interview on July 25th from Chicago. Just before the interview, my wife had found that her father has been diagonized with Liver Cancer. As soon as the interview was over, I suggested she travel to Singapore (where her dad is staying with his son), so she flew to Singapore on July 27th. My father in law is on a strict diet (has to be fed only juices and soups) and also has to be given herrbal and homeopathic medicines throughout the day. He has to be monitered very regularly since he is also a diabetic patient.

I just received my Oath letter for August 18th. On one hand I am happy to have recd the oath, but on the other hand my wife now needs to travel back for the oath. She does not want her father to be left in this situation and come back for the oath. She is planning to stay atleast two more weeks

I have mentioned the entire situation above so nobody thinks I am asking a stupid question. Both of us realize the importance of oath and we definitely want to get the citizenship, but there are some things in life that are more important than citizenship.

Now my question is, Can I reschedule oath for my wife?
Since there is only one week left for the oath, is it better to take a Infopass instead of sending the letter and requesting rescheduling?
Can I reschedule the oath on her behalf?
Also is there a number I can call (Chicago is my local office) to reschedule?

Just so you know, I have searched the forum on Oath rescheduling and most of the experiences have been pretty good. But I just wanted to hear from someone who may rescheduled their oath recently and more specifically in Chicago.

Any help will he highly appreciated

Yes you can reschedule, but there is usually some significant time-related impact. Whether or not you can reschedule your wife's oath on her behalf, especially at an Infopass appointment, is going to be largely up to the people at the DO. I recall similar cases where the USCIS staff handling the Infopass refused to discuss case status with anyone other than the applicant or their officially designated agent (i.e. lawyer).

I would think its worth trying.
