My parents (82 and 72 years old) got their green card in 2002/03 and they have been coming to US and going back to India, but we never planned to file for Citizenship because they did not have 4y9m stay out of continuous 5 years in US. But someone told us that if they stay for 3 years (with the gaps) out of last 5 years, then we can file for their citizenship. Is this true?
We are planning to count this 3 year stay from their last arrival -> 10/20/2010 to 01/25/2012 (-> apprx 15 months), and now they are in US (02/10/2013 - 05/15/2014 (planned to go back to India) -> apprx 15 months) and 10/2014-**/2015 (plan to come back and stay to fulfill the 3 years).. is this enough to file their citizenship on 10/2015? because if I add the number of days they stayed in US between 10/2010 - 10/2015, that would be > 3 years.

Please let me know. Thanks.

As far as I know- only GC holders married to USC can apply US Citizenship after 3 yrs of continuous residence in the US.

No. The general rule is 2.5 years (913 days) in the US of the previous 5 years, with no absences of 6 consecutive months or longer during that 5-year period.
