Need to know if L2 is necessary

My husband is being transferred within his company to the office in California from Canada. He will be getting an L1 visa to do so. My question is do the children and I need a visa as well to accompany him. I do not plan on working.

If you are a canadian citizen, you can visit US for brief periods without L2 visa.

If you are citizen of other country and have visitor visa for US even for longer period say 10 years, it is good idea to get L visa else there is a possiblity of exceeding I-94 validity date inadvertantly.
