Hi,

I am in my 5th year of H1B. My previous stamp expired 2 years ago and my current visa is valid till Apr 2007. My sister-in-law's marriage has been set for Sep. My wife wants to go in a couple of weeks and I wish to get there at the end of Aug. What are my options for getting a visa stamp in India. Appointments are not available any time before December. Is it possible to get emergency visa in New Delhi? How easy or how difficult is it?

Visa Stamping

Hi Siva,

Primarily, there are no options other than the dates posted on the vfs website and keep checking them frequently (people have checked every 1/2 hour on a 24 hour basis for 24/7)

You can also write to the US embassy (Consulate Office) directly giving them a true story of urgency and the need for you come to US (do not qoute marriage as that is the last thing they want to read and hear).

This has worked in a few cases, but no guaranty and no time period of waiting. Once you write, give yourself a last date and time and if there is no reponse you have to go with the dates on the vfs website.

I read somewhere on the thread that your application is stored for a week, so keep browsing for dates and then at the end of the week you can make your appointment (you can give this week as your waiting week for the response).

Good luck, further concerns dive into the forum

Actually in the VFS site, they have stated the valid reasons for asking for an emergency visa appointment and one of them is "H and L visa renewals for applicants who are already working in the U.S and are returning to their jobs."

So I should qualify under this right? Any one has any experience? Is it easy to get an emrgency appointment in Chennai? My friend told me that Dlehi is easier for the emergency appointment.

Hi Siva,

When you actually start making the appointment on the vfs website it gives you various options for emergency appointments apart from H and L Visas. One of them being the death of kith and kin or close blood relatives like a father, brother etc.

You do qualify for an emergency appointment. No second thoughts about it.
Yes, Delhi is easier for emergency appointments and people have caught on to that and are seeking appointments there and it is getting flooded quickly.

Hope this helps. Else, visit the forum
