Hi I am a H-1B visa holder. I need to extend my I-94 expire date. The easiest way is to get out the U.S., and come back. But I dont have money and time to do so. The other way is to apply for another H-1B. That's insane!
Can't I just go down to Tijuana, Mexico and come back with new I-94 form?
Does anyone know?

Thank you

i went to CBP office at a international airport

Today I went to a CBP office at the closest international airport. (I didn't enter the U.S. from this airport but this airport was 15 minutes away from my work. So I just wanted to give it a shot.)
Before I went down, I wanted to make sure they do take care of this. I called CBP, and was told "if this is about immigration matters, call USCIS." When I called USCIS, they told me I had to call CBP. I called CBP they said I have to call USCIS......So when I got the airport, I didn't even know if they did take care of this issue or not! I couldnt even make an app. Anyways, I went down, and a CBP officer who talked to me was really nice and he said new I-94 is not normally issued at the airport unless I get out of the U.S. (i was very disappointed.) but he told me I just need to go to the defered inspection office in USCIS office. He even called the defered office to make sure they actally would give me a new I-94. They said they would. so I just go there tomorrow and see what happens.

GOT a new I-94

yes I have seen posts from people who got a new I94 at an Int'l airport as well. But the airport that I went was pretty small, I mean VERY small (but still it's "Int'l") so I assume they don't do it. A big airport like LAX might do this kind of stuff.

OK. I went to the Deffered office today without an appointment, and I got a new I-94!!! It took me only 15 minutes with no cost. I am so relieved.
Thanks for your answer though. I really appreciate it.

Hmm, one part of the government not knowing what the other does... typical...
I have seen posts from people who got an I-94 corrected at an airport CBP office.
Deferred inspection is actually something different, but if they issue a corrected I-94...
