Need to change last name

Hello,

i have someons who is US Citizens and needs to change her last name after she got divorced.

The lawyer chargered her for the documents and now the lawyer is asking her for cash ( not check or money order ) to pay the court fees.

question?

1- Does she have to go the court?
1- Can she just pay the court fee at the court when she has the appointment?
2- Does anyone know more or less are the fees?

1. She will have to go to court. Lawyer can not do this alone.

2. She can not pay court fee on the appt day since without court fee, they will not schedule the court date in the first place.

3. You can call the local court that handles the name change (Court's location/phone might be on the documents lawyer prepared) Ask the clark there and they will tell you how much the fees are. Otherwise do a google search for court in your state for name change, call that court and ask. Usually clarks help and will tell you which court to call for name change.
