I was reading an article in infoworld.com that employees working for a company on an h-1b who has just graduated from a US university needs to change jobs before applying for permanent residency. Is this true?

I graduated in 2002 and have been working for one company ever since then. The company is in process to get my labor cert. started. I am confused after reading this article.

Quote from the article:
"time served at their first employers counts only toward green-card status after they've taken a job with a second employer."

Please advise.

Thanks.

Quote is Correct

It means,

You cannot count work ex of your H1 B Sponsoring comp , if the same comp is also sponsoring ur GC. This is applicable whether its your first job or second job.

In your case , your Adv must have stated MS+0 yrs work ex or equivalent BS + some yrs work ex. However check the new PERM rules it may have some modifications, but if its not PERM based Labor, then above holds
