Need to apply for Indian Visa/OIC/PIO

Hi,

We just received the US passport of our baby who was born last year in Dallas. We are planning to visit India in August '06. Should I apply for the Indian visa or OIC / PIO for her ?. (I am not sure what the differences are between Visa / OIC /PIO).

And what would be the procedure like ?. (We both hold Indian passports).

I heard that Indian Visa costs only $150 for upto 10 years but PIO card costs $1000 for upto 20 years. What are the other major differences ?.

The OCI costs $275 as opposed to $150 for a regular Visa.

The visa is for 10 years and OCI is for life long.
There is no need to register with the police(FRRO) in India for OCI holders and are treated at par with an NRI.

How long does it take to get OCI ?
I know PIO takes abt 2 weeks.

PIO card does not cost $1000 anymore!!!. It costs only $155 for children under 18 years and is valid for 15 years.

The cheaper and better option for you would be to get a PIO card for your upcoming travel and then apply for OCI. The PIO holders pay only $25 fee to get an OCI. So, for $180 you can get an OCI.

Thanx guys for the responses ... Does travelling using PIO / OIC affect the US citizenship in anyway ? ...
