Hi,

My wife is a US citizen and has applied for my green card and we have our interview the coming Tuesday on June 2nd 2004.

Here is the chronologhy of events that took place

1. We went to India to get married in December 2001. She was GC Holder and I was on H1B. After marriage I came back to United States on my H1B and she through her Green Card.

2. We Applied for marriage Licence in New York in February 2002

3. We have a daughter in December 2002.

3. My wife becomes US citizen in April 2003 and takes her oath.

4. I apply for my Green Card through my wife in May 2003 and receive my EAD and AP within 3 months.

5. I underwent all fingerprintings etc between then and now

6. My interview date is June 2nd , 2004

My question is how do we explain the different dates we got married. One in december 2001 in India and the other in february 2002. The one in February 2002 was just to get a marriage licence. How do I handle this situation in my interview.

Pleeeeeeeeeeease suggest.

Thanks
Ram

I also wanted to add that we had provided a copy of the marriage license to apply for my Green card and did not mention anything about the December wedding in India.

I am so scared. Did we do anything wrong.

Please suggest.

u dont need to worry...i think this is most people do...if u show ur marriage licence from india they will ask you more evidence like wedding pictures etc..etc...i did the same thing...i married in India..came here on H1b and applied for a licence..and waiting for my wife to finish Oath..then i want to apply for AOS....could you please tell me the steps and forms you submit for AOS....?

I dont see any problems in your case, Ram. From whatever I've read earlier, you can get traditionally married in India and get the marriage license in the US as long as you are consistent with your tax returns (in your case i'm assuming you filed as joint married only starting year 2003)..We are also having the gc interview AOS just a couple of days after you do,so it'll be sweet if you could post your experience as soon as you are done :)
All da best..
