Need some help regarding interview/tax question

Hello..It's been a long while since I visited but I just found out yesterday I need some advice!! I am citizen and spouse has GC based on marriage (20 years). He's been a resident for 5 years but he'd applied to become citizen based on our marriage.

Anyway, smooth sailing so far. Got the letter that the next step will be the interview date which I expect in the next short while. We got the yellow form letter asking to bring tax reutnrs, marriage certificate, etc so I assume the interview coming up shortly.

However, this week, in the mail, we received a letter from our LOCAL tax auditor. I'd never heard of it, as I'd only been in this area for 2 years. Anyway, we pay an accountant ALOT of money to do our returns...(its complicated)...And they file FEDERAL and let us know we had to also file STATE. We did those 2 as told...But then I got this letter stathing that we owe 2012 (Which obviously means 2013 too to me)...

So, tomorrow will be a day of me contacting the accountant firm to say 'what the heck' . That is the least of my concern. The concern is his interview.

I realize ignorance is not BLISS in this scenario..But cut to the chase--at the time of his application, the of course he checked the box that he has filed all taxes (as we thought so based our accountant). Now, so close to the home stretch we find this out. I am so upset because in all aspects of our busy lives we are very organized. And here we've paid a lot over time to this firm for THIS type of mistake. I am praying tomorrow I find out some reasonable explanation (i.e. we don't have to pay bc they already calculated or some other accounting reason)

If indeed we owe, and it is a matter of filing and paying--how do we handle this in interview (obviously the truth) but is there something to do preemptively besides possibly cleearning this up and getting a satisfaction letter? Do I get a letter from the firm that they never filed for us? Clearly, we didn't know. As I said, I pay this mid sized firm and this is the mess now.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you..V
