My passport was held in Kolkata Consulate, it is almost 4 months now. I have submitted my I797 and DD also along with the requested documents mentioned in 221(g) and the office told i would receive my passport in 2 to 3 days. I called up the US Consulate in Kolkata but always they asked me to call again after 2 weeks (after few weeks they said my case is in admin processing and would contact me once it is cleared), so I called DOS approx 6 weeks back and the VO(in DOS) said that my case is not with them and i need to conact the US Consulate in India where my passport was held.
I'm wondering:
1. What kind of verification they can do in India. Because from last 6 years i'm in USA.
2. Can the Consulate really hold my passport so long that too without any notice ie. like 221(g). I was not issued any document or 221(g) that my case was in admin processing.
3. Now my I797 approval expires Nov 2006 (i left out with approx 11 weeks). I'm worried now how long it may take for them to clear my case or request for any further documents.
Please share your experience and advise me what could be my options. It's is very frustrating and its impacting my job and career prospects.
