Hi

Quite new to this forum ! So hope it's ok to ask for some advice regarding our situation.

The background is as follows:

My grandparents are German by birth. Both immigrated to Usa in their early twenties and became citizens. After about 15 years they went back to Germany.

My mum was born in Chicago and is American by birth. She moved to Germany with her parents when she was about 12-13.

My mum moved back to the USA 3 years ago. With my dad and brothers.

Now we would love to join them. My mum is submitting the family visa for us- waiting list appears to be 9 years +... :-(

We have also just submitted our diversity lottery entry. But as I understand the chances are slim (I am German by birth)

We currently live in the UK and neither of our jobs have offices in the USA so no possible transfer. (Police and town planner at a local council).

Are we missing something? Just had my mum over for a long visit and this separation is horrible. We just want our family to be together

Thanks for any advice ;-)

Just for completeness (you posted in the "family-sponsored" sub-forum): as son or daughter of a US citizen - in your message you did not provide your age range and whether or not you are married. Viel Erfolg!

For an immigrant visa, your choices are Family based immigration (through your mother or by marriage but I guess you are already married), employment based immigration (typically requiring at least a Bachelors and experience in certain fields that are probably not me by the experience you mention), or Diversity (which has a small chance of selection).

Non immigrant visas are available also generally for education.

Reading between the lines I guess you are early 30's and married, so the family based immigration through your Mum is probably your best route, and while waiting you can play the DV lottery.
