Need information - New to this process

Hello, I have a few questions that I was wondering if I could get answered. I am a U.S. Citizen (born in the U.S.). I got married in December of 2004. Here is the thing. She came into this country back in 1983 on a temporary visa for a 6 month time period. Her parents never went back to upgrade her status or anything, essentially making her an illegal immigrant (I apologize if that's not the correct terminology, not trying to be mean with my words). We live in California. What I need to know is the exact process that I need to go about making her a legal permanent resident and eventually a U.S. Citizen.

I went to the the INS website Click Here . I'm having a hell of a time trying to fill it out. She doesn't have a I-94 or a Alient number, so how do I fill out the form with it? What do I need to go about getting the ball rolling? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

because she is married to you she is no longer illegal as long as you can prove she came here legally.

it's ok that she doesn't have her A number but she does need that I-94. Try to look for it. It's a little piece of paper attached to her passport where they stamped it. It might have been called something else way back then.

gather up all documentation that she has. She will also need her copies of her original birth certificate.

once you establish that she did come here legally then you have to gather up all documentation on you. You will need copies of your birth certificate and tax forms for the last three years.

if you need further assistance you can call INS at their 800 number

you can also make an appointment to go down to INS and try to look up her previous case.

good luck to you
