Need info - visitor visa "stamp" extention

Hi,

Does anyone know if it is possible to extend a visitor visa "beyond" the stamp date? My mom arrived yesterday, her intended stay being 4.5 months. She showed her return ticket as well. However, she only got a 3-month stamp. This was very surprising because this is her 5th trip here and she has always received a 6 month stamp.
Any thoughts on how we could get her stamp date extended by 1.5 months? Is there a procedure/form, etc. for this?
Thanks in advance!
Himanshu

U have apply in Form i 539 send all the the papers of the pass port, and write a covering letter, u have to apply I 539 well in advance. ( under the assumption she has valid Visa stamp in her passport )
all the best

I have heard that unless it is "ABSOLUTELY " unavoidable, one should generally not go for the extention. The reasons I have heard are:
1. Next time, the stamp could be even shorter
2. Potential issues could arise if the person who visits is going to apply for a PR (Green Card) in the future.

In short, it is probably better to get a 3 month stamp and stay for 3 months only every time, than to extend the stay to 6 months now and then get only 1 month for next trip...

Who knows? This is what I have heard. None of the above might be true.
