Hi folks,

My CP interview has been schedule at Bombay for the 21st of May. The issue is, that I am pregnant and will not be permitted by my doctor to take any vaccinations. Since I had come to the US on a student visa, I had taken all the required vaccinations before coming here, but I am not sure if the doctors in bombay will accept an Indian doctor's certificate saying I had been vaccinated..I hear that vaccinations for GC happen at the Breach Candy hospital. Has any of you been in this situation before? How reasonable are they when it comes to pregnancy and vaccinations?
On the same note, is there any problem at the consulate with the interview if one is pregnant? Is it better to get the interview postponed to until after I have had my baby?
How many weeks in advance, before the interview date, should one plan on being in India to take care of all police clearance, vaccinations etc formalities?
Thanks a lot for all your help,

pma,

I can assure you that no physician would take lightly of the fact
that you are pregnant and administer any shots that are detrimental to your health.

Show what ever records you have and explain your condition to them. I assume you would have some medical records from US
also.

You do not have to postpone your trip to the consulate because of your pregnancy ( only exception is if you are in the last tri-mister of your pregnancy and there are concerns about travelling by air)

Actually it is possible to finish your medical formalities in a day or
two and since it is better to have them about 2 days before the
interview date, going to India a week before the interview date
is all you would need.

But I am concerned about your comment about the PCC. This
could be an issue.

If you are living in US then:

1) For your stay in India from the age of 16 , you need to get
a PCC from the Indian Consulate in US.

Apart from this, if you have stayed in any county for a period of
one year or more you need a PCC from all such countries also.

Getting a PCC from the consulate takes 40 or 45 days. If you have
not done this then it is a big hurdle for your interview.

So, you need to post back about your PCC status!

Good luck.

Need info regarding vaccinations in bombay

Hi Raju,

Thanks so much for your prompt response. To answer your question - no, I do not have a PCC already. I have been living in the US since 1998 Sept, so I assume I will still need a PCC from India. DO you know if it s possible to file for an express PCC from the Indian consulate here? The closes for me would be the San Francisco consulate. Would you know if getting a PCC from India would be any faster?

I was worried about vaccinations during pregnancy, because all my vaccination records are from India. I only have one letter from my graduate school showing I had been vaccinated for MMR and checked for TB before coming to the US.

Thanks again for your help.

pma,

Do not worry about your medical tests and the vaccinations.

Once the physician is aware of your pregnancy he would not
suggest nor administer any vaccinations that he should not
be giving. This is not an issue at all for you.

Now your main problem is your PCC.

No, there are no express routes to getting a PCC. I also live
close to San Francisco and got my PCC from the Consulate there.

It took me 45 days to get it. It is true that I have not looked at
the possibility of getting it in say 10 to 15 days.

As far as I know, this is possible if your passport has been issued
by the San Francisco Consulate.

There is only one possibility I can think of:

Apply at the Consulate, take some reference number and since
the enquiry goes to the passport office that has issued your
PP ( in India) , try to follow up at that Passport office and see
that a response saying that you have a clean record comes back
to the consulate here. ( phew... that was a long sentence)

But I am sorry to say, the chance of this coming through are
slim.

Your interview is on 21st and my advise would be to travel via
Europe, rather than through far-east. So if you have to start, say
on 14th or 15 , then you have just about 20 days to finish this
business.

Apply for the PCC first.

Police clearance from India not allowed?

Hi Raju,

Can't thank you enough for your replies. So, is it mandatory for me to get a PCC from SFO then? Can I not get it from India? It may be faster for me to arrange for a PCC from India - I got my passport from the ahmedabad office.

Thanks a ton.

I am pretty sure you cannot manage with a PCC from India.
However you can put the same resources to work so that
the enquiry from the Consulate (SF) is responded to, immediately
so that the consulate can issue the PCC to you.

If nothing works out, the only option you have is requesting
postponement of the interview . If requested for, the consulate
fixes another date in 2 to 3 months time frame.

Send an email to your consulate and find out the details.

I am not suggesting you to do this now, but letting you know
about this.

Good luck.

PMA,

Vaccination: If you can have certificate from your indian physician that you have been vaccinated before coming to US in 1998, all hospitals will accept it. I had certificate from my physician here and we did not needed any vaccination.

If you can not get vacccination record, they will still not administer vaacines, you will get a waiver for particular vaccine and once you give birth to child and feeding them, you will have to get the proper vaccine. I have got this info from Hinduja and partly personal experince about records.

PCC: If someone in your family has good contact in AHM passport office, you can try there to expedite the inquiry response to SFO consulate. This will make sure that you get PCC in time. (just a suggestion).

In worst case, you can re-schedule your interview upto one yer of Packet-4 date (appointment letter date). You can also ask for specific time ( not specific day but like later part of Aug) depending on your health.

Good Luck with your interview.

Vaccinations and Police Clearance

Hi GPiyush and Raju,

Thanks so much for your responses. I called the Mumbai Consulate and they said that I can also get a PCC from India. n that case I will need 2 clearance certificates :
1) From regional passport office
2) from local police station of last city of residence in India

My lawyer also confirmed this - so I am hoping I should be okay with police cert from India. Although, I confess, I am quite nervous, because I havent come across a single post that says they got their PCC from India :(

Re. vaccinations, if I get waived for some of them, will that hamper my medical clearance for the Visa purposes, or will they give me the Green Card on the condition that I get vaccinated in some specified time period after the birth of my baby?

I really do not want to get the interview date postponed athen s far as possible, because then it will be a long time before I will be able to travel again, and in this climate, its not wise to wait long for Green Cards to arrive..

Thanks for your responses.

Your post about the PCC is news to us. Good for you!

This should help those who are in a tight situation with regard
to getting a PCC at a short notice.

The decision of the physician is final and you will not have any
problem with the vaccinations.

My passport doesn't reflect my married status, as I havent changed my last name to that of my husband's yet. I haven't heard of that causing any problems at the consulate, but just wanted to check. I didnt get my name changed initially as my lawyer had just filed for my CP, and I didnt want to delay the process any further by waiting for a name change etc.

If i want to get my name changed after I receive my green card, is that a striaghtforward process? Does anyone have any experience about that?

thanks!
