I am going to India tomorrow due to a personal reason.

I have recently changed the employer and have used AC21 and right now, I have

1. 2 pay stubs [ new employer ]
2. offer letter [ new employer ]
3. AP [ of course applied and got approved when I was with my previous employer ]
4. passport
5. ticket
6. AC21 letter [ draft ] obtained from the lawyer

I couldn't get the letter of employment from my present employer as it does seem to be a lengthy procedure of 3 or more weeks [ hmm ] .... I asked for a fax copy and a live letter to be mailed.

The most headache part is that I have started 2 weeks after the start date given by the employer in the offer letter as I was requested to give 2 more weeks of notice [ or knowledge transfer ] at the old employer.

Please let me know if I will have a hard time at the port of entry ... Newark, NJ ... if I present the above said documents [ 1 through 6 + a fax of the employment letter ] without an actual employment letter while I re-enter US a week later.

Guys !!! please suggest what should I do ........ .

Hmm....

Won't they have some sort of background information or something ... for example if I deliberately say that I am still working for the old employer ... and ... if by any chance they have new employer information ... won't I be immediately doubted .. ?

Gurus .... Please suggest ....

They may ask where u r working?
tell them current employer.

Mostly while goingthru yr documents they are asking questions casually. Give specific answer to the questions.
Anyway carrying more documents is always better.

I don't see any problem here.

About 1.5 years ago I came to Newark airport using AP. I was working with the same employer, but the officer was not concerned about my job at all, he wanted to know where was I and for how-long. I guess AP is the most important documents. I told him I went for 2 weeks holiday and he just stamped our AP and I94 and passports. Don't worry at all, it will go smoothly:)

Very Urgent

I travelled to INDIA few months ago and I just showed my PASSPORT & valid AP. That's it. They didn't ask any questions.

They just want you valid PASSPORT with valid AP nothing else.

Some times they do ask few questions while they're pulling your records in computer.

Don't worry you'll be fine when you come back. But make sure you've AP with you. That's the main important document you need.

Thanks guys ...

I did enquire a little bit here and there and found that ....

If we have valid AP and Passport, they won't ask for a proof/change of employment etc ... even if they do ... if we carry

1. Recent Pay Stubs
2. Offer letter,

that should be enough.

Thanks a lot guys and I hope we all get our I-485s approved soon and get out of this dangling state of AOS .....

don't worry about the letter of employment, at the POE, they shouldn't ask for your pay stubs at all, it is not their concerns. it won't hurt to carry them with you if you have it
u should carry photocopies of the 485 filling receipts, and photocopies of AP and other documents if you want.

i have travelled in and out of US several times in 2003 (to canada, india, europe and japan); not a single time i was asked anything other than AP and passport;

Done ....

Guys ... You are all correct .... they didn't ask me a single question ....

I was sent to a room backside the immigration counters and after a few moments, I was called and handed over my AP papers and passport with Aps duly stamped.

It was quite easy ....... Thanks for all the suggestions guys....
