Need help of documents for upcoming Citizenship Interview

vfor400

I got my green card (in 2004) as a dependent based on my Spouse’s employment green card application. I applied for my Citizenship (after 7 years) and I have a interview in 3 weeks. I am gathering the required documents.

I have 2 questions:

1. Do I need to show address proof like Lease document? I was out of town when we signed last lease (a year back) and I was lazy and never added my name to it. I can ask my land lord to add my name if it is useful.

2. I never got any traffic tickets. Do I need to carry any proof to show that I don’t have any citations? (Like DMV driving record etc)

Here is the document list, please let me know if I forgot any other documents:

1. Passport
2. Green Card
3. Interview Letter
4. Driver license
5. Last 5 years tax transcripts
6. W2 statements for last 5 years
7. Birth Certificate --> Required?
8. Marriage Certificate --> Required?
9. Bank statements for last 3 months --> Required?
10. Pay stubs for last 3 months --> Required?
11. Utility bills for last 3 mohnths --> Required?

Any other documents???

Thanks

1. Between your Drivers License/latest Utility bill/Address on the Tax transcript proof of address can be established. So no need to get a modified lease.
2. You can get a copy of your DMV record (latest) for few dollars, and having that with is a good idea, should this topic on Tickets come up in detailed discussion.

Do take with you the birth certificate,marriage certificate,utility bill (latest) - along with the Passport/GC/SSN card/USCIS Interview letter to appear for interview.
Plus a Black pen for signatures.

I'd also recommend that you make good copies of your Green card , and leave it home for your records. If you had made a copy of the N400 prior to having sent it in, go revisit the answers you put in there, as part of the Interview all questions will be discussed by the IO, and final corrections made. If you did travel since sending in the N400, do mention that.

1 to 4, and 8 are very likely to be requested. The birth certificate may be required if you have any discrepancies with your name or DOB on different documents (e.g. your name spelling on your passport is different from the GC or DL).

But assuming you're applying with the regular 5-year rule, they're almost surely not going to ask for #5,6,9, 10, or 11 on your list, nor for your lease or mortgage, unless you indicated tax problems or you've been abroad long enough to put continuous residence into question (and if that happened, they'd want statements and bills from the time when your trips were taken). You can bring them just in case, but it would be unusual if you were asked for them.

Thanks a ton for your answers.

I have a DMV copy that I took in end of June. I hope that I can use this copy.

I don't have any tax problems and filed my taxes properly in last 12 years. My name is consistent on all documents too.

I do have 4 trips in last 5 years. Total number of days out of the country are 180 (2 trips each consists 60 days and 2 trips for 37 and 16 days each). The last trip was in June 2010 for 60 days. No travel since Aug, 2010. Is it any issue? Do I need to keep any documents for this?

I have most of the pay stubs, bank statements, credit card bills, utility statements since last 18 months. I will just carry copies of last 3-4 months statements.

Should I use a Inc pen or any pen works?

- If you have not travelled after you filed N400, no need to carry any docs for travel before then, as you would have already listed them in the N400 itself.
- Recent DMV copy (June is fine). Again, if your interview letter does not ask for anything specifically, anything extra you carry (like this DMV record) is just to answer questions better.
- Since most official papers are recommended to be signed with black ink, suggested carrying any black ink pen. ( example : Black BIC pen is ideal, as writes on photos too without leaving gaps)
