it looks like your Mom heard it wrong.. He must have said 6 months.
Anyways -- what date is in I-94 is final .. for longer stay you can apply for extensions. Make sure you make photo copy of I-94 before you give it away to airport guys .. [wonder what they do with it ]

My original message:
Questions about the I94 allowable stay period?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Immigration officer at Buffalo Rainbow bridge advised my Mom, she is only allowed to stay in US for a month. Otherwise, she will not be able to return to US in the next 10 years. However, when we are looking at her I94, they granted her I94 a full 6x months period. I go thru her entire passport and as well as the I94, there is no words about the one month stay.
I understand that if they only put a month on her I94, she has a month then. So, based on what ground an officer can do such thing?
I believe, US is a place who obey what the law said and should I take the officer's advice or should I take "black & white" on the I94.
My own opinion is, if we take this to the court, the court will only take what the evidence said, right?
Please share your thoughts............

Nadi,
Here is the interesting part. My Mom didn't understand English but she travels from Toronto with my cousin. (My cousin speaks English well) and my cousin claims the officer make a very serious point about her 1 month stay (the exact wording is... He must see her I94 card in this border (Buffalo, NY - Rainbow bridge on 6/19 or she will lose her B1/B2 VISA forever.)
It sounds like a threat to me. But it already puts my mom to a TOTOALLY unnecessary pressure.
See if anyone can further comment this or seen/heard similar issues in the past.
