so here is the score....
got here on an F1 visa. taught and studied for 3 semesters. dropped out and worked for three years going four. never left the country. because i taught before i had a valid ssn and driver's license. with tougher immigration rules nowadays, i am having a hard time to get a decent job. took the gre and toefl again and was admitted to 5 universities for the PhD program complete with support (stipend, fellowship, health insurance, free tuition, etc)
dilemna:
should i continue and pretend like im a new intl student? when i applied to the department i never informed them about the studies i had before in TX. though wasted considering my gpa was 3.85. but i have no choice in order to get a new I20 or else i will might be told to go back first which is not an option for me. during the course of my stay here, i've read about an article about a USC student who is out of status, lost her scholarship but was able to finish her studies (BS) without being deported. i was thinking of doing the same thing. i know of another intl student orginally from a univ in NY and went to a univ somewhere in FL with an expired visa but with new 120. However, his case is still unrealiable since he stayed for the PhD program for a year and is working now illegally also ( he has SSN, DL).
my only concern is i dont want to be deported. have nothing else to do abck home since ive been here for more than 5 years now. i will be happy to be deported after the PhD program.
please help me what to do? did anyone do what i am thinking of planning and was able to finish the degree? will the school inform me that i am out of status and would need to stop schooling? am i allowed to accept the scholarship, teaching and research assistantships considering im out of status? i did asked my former Univ before and i was told i can go back and study but i cannot accept any assistantships from the dept. please help.
sorry for the long post
