Need Help - Background check after Interview

Hi all,

My N-400 was based on Marriage, I attended the interview on Sep 12, 06. I did not take my wife with me (she is US citizen) for the interview and nowhere it says in the interview letter. Passed the Language and History and told to submit an affidavit from my wife that we were married for 3 years and her copy of her driver license (I requested the IO that I can bring my wife in 1/2 hr as she works in the same area).. IO told to submit the affidavit and everything will be ok.
We gave the affidavit, driver license copy and boat load of documents that we are married (like Joint A/c, Life Insurance policies, and lot more).
I did not hear anything from that point, I went to Immigration office today and asked for my status, they told my application is pending background check.
I don't understand, I believe that checks are done before interview right?

Any advice will be very helpful.

Attended the interview in Hartford, CT.

Strange one!Why didnt you summit marriage cetificate/Joint tax information during you intial application. This is the first time I have heard that immigration asks for affidavite from spouse.Happened to a friend of mine .His wife went for interview without him.IO called him up while taking her interview to verify they were married and living together. Take infopass appointment on monthly basis to check on things.Any case filed afte May06 were suppose to be schdueled only after bacground check was completed.

dckaraja is absolutely right. Last week during an InfoPass appt IO did confirm that USCIS is not scheduling any interviews after May 2006, unless background checks are complete. Keep checking with them by getting InfoPass appts as suggested by dckaraja.
Good Luck

My wife wasn't at my interview, the IO asked why she wasn't and I just said she was sleeping from her night shift. I did have copies of all the docs, marriage cert etc (which he already had when I sent those in for the N-400). He was fine with all that and I got approved. So not sure why you needed that affidavit either.

As for the name checks, I think the USCIS was in the process of switching over to the new format that it had to be done before the interview. I don't know if every office has fully made that transistion yet, so that could be why...

We have submitted the marriage certificate and tax returns from past 4 years and heck a lot of other documents.

I applied N-400 in April 06.

Thanks for your response.
