Hi,
I am a GC holder but have followed my (American) husband to Canada where he is currently working. I have a Canadian work permit and do work in Canada at the moment. I have a valid I-131 but it is expiring and I am wondering if I really need to apply for a new one since it's expensive.
I read that it is necessary to have the re-entry permit if you are absent from the US for more than a year and want to keep your permanent residency, but we do visit the US much more often than once a year. They're just visits though... we're not planning on moving back in the next year.
Thanks!
