Hi,
I am an independent applicant. Planning to land in Calgary shortly with wife and daughter. Will some one please brief me on what to expect on landing, what type of question are asked and what documents I must carry.
Regards

Follow thread "Landing next week"

I landed on July 13th via Rainbow bridge (Niagara Falls) using rental car. There was no problem in crossing US border while going. At Canada border the lady asked me about my citizenship and if I am GC holder of US. I replied in negative and told her that we ( family of 4) came here for landing only. She directed us to immigration/custom office. At Imiigration counter officer did not ask any question except for IMM docs, passport, bank statement, photographs for GC and address in Canada. He took around 10 minutes to fill the application form for permanent resident and we signed in designated area. He told us that withing 3-4 weeks we will get plastic cards. Then we went to custom counter. I told the custom officer that we are not moving to Canada now. Since my H1 is valid for 10 more months after that we will be able to move to Canada. I gave her a Excel sheet of "Items to follow list" having item description, quantity, Value in US $ and Value in CA $. She filled up a form and after signing and stamping the list, she returned back to me. That form has value of items in CA$. She remined me that when I move my car to Canada, I need to pay the duty on that. The whole process took around 35-45 minutes including filling the forms.

We came back by same bridge after staying in Niagara falls, Sudbury Canada for 3-4 days. Forgot to mention that we did apply for SIN nos.

While coming back to US the INS officer did ask some common questions viz, where do you live?, Where did you go to Canada?, Have any one give you packet?...

Overall it was good vacation time for us in Canada.

:)
