Hi, I am a Canadian PR working in US on a H1-B from past 5 years. I landed in Canada in March 2000 and am maintaining residential ties to Canada. (had an apartment lease & paid the taxes on US income from past 2 years, had driving license, health card, bank account, CC, phone etc).
My H1 visa expired in Oct 2002 and got the new H1 (valid till Sept 2003), but I have a visa that expired in Oct 2002 on passport. Since as a Canadian PR we were allowed to return to US on valid I-94, I planned to visit Canada next week (02/10) to apply the PR CARD.
But today (02/05) saw the news about valid visa requirement for Canadian PR’s.
My 6-year H1 will be over in Sept 2003 and I planned to move to Canada during that time.
1) Though if I go ahead to Canada to apply the PR card next week, it would be problem when I go to collect the card next time (with an expired visa).
As I plan to move to Canada around August 2003, would it be ok if I apply the PR CARD during that time?? Would I be allowed to go to Canada with IMM-1000 in Aug 2003?
2) As I would be completing the 3 year requirement to apply for the Canadian Citizenship by March 2003, would it be advisable to apply for the citizenship instead of PR card in Aug 2003.
I appreciate the participants for their valuable suggestions and comments and thought someone would provide their valuable advise to the above. Thank you.
