Need advise on unemployment benefits

Can a Canadian citizen who has been working in the States for 2 years apply for unemployment benefits? Both of my friends have lost their job last week. Both have TN working visas but didn\'t apply for green card. One has been working in the States for nearly 2 years while the other is only working for 1 year. Are they qualify to receive unemployment benefits? They are planning to apply GC in future. I don\'t think this would jeopardize their cases in future but I would like to hear some advises from you guys. Thanks in advance for your inputs.

No Such Luck

To qualify for UI, you must have the ability to work without restrictions. Not having a Green Card means you do not qualify. They can go back to Canada and file an interstate claim there via treaty.

More questions.

Canadian:
Thanks for your advise. A few more questions. Even though their TN visas are still valid for a few months, do they have to go back to Canada ASAP? Can they stay here as a "visitor" (don\'t know how to proof that)? They are worried that they may not have a "legal" status to stay in US. If they are able to find a job soon, can they change get their new TN visa in the States?

This is probably not the right place to post this question.

People visiting here are mostly, if not all, interested in I-485 issues - they may not be able to answer your question or you may get wrong advise...

Do you know where should I post this message? Any on-line forums that are discussing this type of issues? Please advise. Thanks!
