I applied for a change of status from F‑1 to H‑4 and stopped working after filing the COS. My STEM OPT SEVIS portal is now asking for the 6‑month evaluation, but I haven’t had any employment since July 2025. I already reported my employment end date to my university, and even though my 180‑day unemployment limit has passed, my SEVIS record is still showing as active. I’m unsure what the correct next step is—especially whether updating the university again could cause SEVIS termination and whether that would affect my pending H‑4 application or my ability to remain in the U.S.
