Need advice on I-130

Hello.

I filled an I-130 petition for my sister back in 2000. After receiving the initial receipt notice, I have not heard from USCIS for over 9 years. I called the national service center last August and a few weeks later I received a letter from Texas service center saying that the paper record was lost and asking me to reconstructed the I-130 form and send it back to them, which I did in the next couple of days. It has been 2 months since I mailed them the reconstructed form, and I have not heard anything from them on whether the documents for the case is complete and they will review the case.

The receipt date for the case is getting very close to the visa priority date now. My questions are: should I hire a lawyer to help me on this, or should I be patient and wait a little bit longer to see if USCIS will resolve the problem? Has anyone had the same experience? What would be the best way to handle this so the case will not be delayed any further?

Thank you in advance for your help.

You should seek an appointment with USCIS. Please check the site for the procedure for taking the appointment. Your is a straight forward case and you dont need a lawyer

Thank you for your help, nsvr.

I will go ahead and set up an appointment with my local USCIS office to ask them to look into the case. You do mean an INFOPASS appointment I can set up online, right? How is it different with a service request from the national service center? Will I get more information about my case from a USCIS office?
