Naturalized Citizen living abroad returning to US for short holiday

Hi. I am a naturalized citizen and am now living abroad in my country of birth as a dual citizen. My partner bought me a ticket back to the US for my birthday for a quick visit with some friends for a special occasion. Unfortunately I cannot locate my valid passport (I know, I know... no lectures please) and I leave in 9 days. I can travel on my other passport for this trip? If not, is there anyway to get a emergency travel letter or passport of some sort from a U.S. consulate here before I go?

Thanks

Go to the nearest US Embassy in your country and get an Emergency or Expedited US passport issued. It is not advisable to travel on your country of origin's passport to US after you become a US Citizen. The US Embassy can give you a US passport either on the same day or within 2-3 days.

I think the OP can get an expedited passport from the consulate in a one week. If it cuts too close, he can always get an emergency passport the same day and then get an expedited passport at a passport agency before leaving the USA. I am just not sure whether the emergency passport can be used in lieu of citizenship proof when applying for a regular passport inside the country.
