Naturalization and Name Check Delays

My wife(Brazilian national) and I(USC) were married in 2004. Due to name check delays it took nearly 4 years for her to receive LPR. And then only after the Feb2008 USCIS memo allowing adjudication of cases with namechecks older than 180 days. We never did (never expected to) receive notice that name check ever cleared.

Now we have sent in her application for naturalization. The question...For those who had extensive namecheck delays in their I-485 processes, has your experience in the Naturalization process been the same or better?

Thanks in advance,
Lardbird

From about the end of 2008 the general name check process (for all applicants) has gotten significantly faster. The FBI has put some additional manpower resources in it and they streamlined the logistics of the process to some extent. Delays of more than 6 months due to the name check are now quite rare. Hopefully your wife's name check this time around will be processed relatively quickly - you should hope for the best. The online case status for N-400 cases now changes to "the case has been transferred to a local office" after the background checks have been completed, so it is easier to track what's going on.

When exactly did your wife get a GC and when did she submit N-400?
